One spare single-mode fibre can save a civil-works job. That is the practical case for BiDi SFP optical transceivers in Southeast Asia, where riser pathways, duct space and leased dark fibre are often more expensive or harder to obtain than the active hardware. A 155M–2.67G module is not a generic plug-in, though. The wrong wavelength mate will leave a perfectly clean fibre link dark.

Buying an optical transceiver is rarely difficult because of the optics alone. The problems usually start with a mismatched host port, the wrong fiber type, an unrecognised OEM code, or a connector that does not suit the patching plan. In Southeast Asian data centres, telecom networks, enterprise sites and industrial facilities, those details can decide whether a link comes up cleanly or becomes a site visit.
